Representing the Lou in Gotham

The New York Knicks got their first victory last night, thanks to the efforts of a pair of former St. Louis prep stars.
David Lee (Chaminade) and Larry Hughes (CBC) combined for 48 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Knicks past New Orleans 117-111 as the boys from Gotham tasted victory for the first time after three consecutive losses.
Lee led the way with 28 points (13 for 17 shooting from the field) and eight rebounds while Hughes chipped in with 20 points and six rebounds.
In four games, the 6'9" Lee has continued to be the "double-double" machine that he has been since entering the league four years ago. He is currently averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 62 percent from the field.
After a slow start, which included a cold-shooting preseason and a few DNPs to start the regular season, Hughes has come up with a pair of big games in a starting role.
In his last two starts, Hughes is averaging 19 points a game while shooting 15 of 24 from the field. After shooting 1 of 23 from the field in the preseason and sitting for all of the Knicks first two games, Hughes appeared destined for a Stephon Marbury-like existence for the final year of his contract.
Instead, he kept a professional attitude and kept himself ready to perform when the opportunity arose, which did when guard Nate Robinson went down with an injury. In two games, Hughes has been fantastic.
As well as sharing the same NBA uniform, Lee and Hughes also share a couple of things in common. Both prepped at Metro Catholic Conference schools, both were McDonald's All-Americans and both played summer basketball for the St. Louis Eagles.
Good work fellas. Keep representing the Lou in a big way.
