
Hall of Fame basketball coach Harry Statham moved one step closer to the achieving the historical milestone of 1,000 victories during his career.
Statham's McKendree Bearcats defeated Graceland College 71-57 last night to give Statham victory No. 999.
Statham will go for No. 1,000 on Friday night when the Bearcats host East-West University in Lebanon, Ill. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
Statham is the all-time winningest men's college basketball coach at a four-year school. He will become the third collegiate coach to reach the 1,000-victory plateau.
Already in the 1,000-victory club are Three Rivers Community College men's coach Gene Bess and legendary women's coach Pat Summit at the University of Tennessee.
