Preseason honors for STL young ladies

St. Louis natives Jordann Plummer (pictured, right) and Kelsey Luna (left) were selected to the preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team at the recent MVC Media Day in St. Louis.
Both talented point guards from the STL have gone on to enjoy stellar careers in the MVC. Plummer is a senior at Drake University while Luna is entering her final year at Indiana State.
Plummer and Luna were All-MVC picks a year ago after leading their teams in scoring in 2009.
Plummer, a former standout at Cardinal Ritter College Prep, averaged 12.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists to lead the Bulldogs in 2009. She was also voted Drake's Most Valuable Player after leading the Bulldogs to a 19-12 record and third-place finish in the Valley.
Luna, a former standout at St. Joseph's Academy, averaged 14.5 points a game. She was also one of the nation's top 3-point shooters, hitting 42 percent of her attempts from long distance. Luna is fully recovered from a season-ending knee injury.
I have been watching these two talented young ladies perform brilliantly since the moment they entered high school as freshmen. I knew Jordann was going to be a good one because she beat me in a game of H-O-R-S-E when she was a fifth-grader several years ago.
Kelsey earned St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro honors as a freshman after helping lead St. Joe's to a state championship in 2002.
Both were four-year staters at their respective high schools and they have taken their games to another level as standout performers on the basketball court and in the classroom.
Good luck to Jordann and Kelsey as they look to finish their careers in high style.
