MSU clips Auburn in opener

The Missouri State Bears opened the 2009-10 season in the same manner that they opened the 2009-09 season. With a home court victory over a school from the Southeastern conference.

Missouri State defeated Auburn 73-62 to kick off the season in fine style. Last year, the Bears knocked off Arkansas to open the season as well as the brand new Hammons Center.

Guard Travis Leonard led the Bears with 14 points. Sophomore Kyle Weems adde 13 points while junior college transfer Jermaine Mallett added 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and a highlight reel dunk to spark the Bears in the first half.

Former Oakville High standout Keith Pickens got the starting nod in his first game as a collegian and scored two points.

Congrats to MSU head coach and former East St. Louis Lincoln star Cuonzo Martin on his team's impressive opening season victory.
