A couple of long time metro east collegiate basketball coaches have a chance to reach special career milestones tonight.
In Lebanon, Ill., McKendree head men's basketball coach Harry Statham goes for career victory No. 1,000 when his Bearcats host East-West University tonight at 7 p.m.
A member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, Statham has more coaching victories than any other man at a four year college. The other members of the 1,000-victory club are junior college coaching legend Gene Bess at Three Rivers Community College and women's coaching icon Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee.
Over in Belleville, head coach Jay Harrington of Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) tries for victory No. 700 tonight as his team will host Highland Junior College (Ill.) in an 8 p.m. tilt.
Harrington is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame. His SWIC teams have averaged nearly 30 victories a season during the past five years.
Good luck to these metro east coaching giants in their quest to make history.
