Central Missouri State University will host Southwest Baptist tonight in a clash of Division II national powers in Warrensburg, Mo. at 7:30 p.m.
Both schools are members of the MIAA and are ranked in the top 10 of the latest NABC Top 10 rankings. Central Missouri State is ranked No. 2 while Southwest Baptist is 7-1.
Central Missouri State (4-0) advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Division II Tournament last season. The Mules defeated Southwest Baptist in the regional finals on their way to the Final Four. Both teams are loaded again and led by players from the Show-Me State.
The Mules are led by the pair of 6'3" forward Sanijay Watts (Jennings) and 6'0" guard Alex Moosman (St. Francis Borgia). The two former area standouts shared the Post-Dispatch Player of the Year award in 2006. Now, they are in Warrensburg together leading the Mules to national prominence under head coach Kim Anderson.
Watts, an All-American is currently averaging 21.3 points, 8.5 rebounds while shooting 61 percent from the field. Moosman is averaging 14.5 points, three assists while hitting nine of his 14 three-point attempts.
Southwest Baptist (7-1) is led by 6'11" All-American center Matt Rogers from Doniphan, Mo. Rogers does it all for SBU, averaging 24.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, three blocks. He is also shooting 56 percent from the 3-point line and 86 percent from the free throw line.
The UCM Multipurpose building will be rocking tonight.
